A while ago I posted a list of potential adversaries Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch could encounter in the upcoming “Multiverse of Madness” movie. The genre for this particular MCU installment is rumored to be horror/suspense. With that, the first big baddie that comes to mind is Annihilus. A cosmic-threat level entity bent on death and destruction in the most chaotic ways, looking to extend his own lifespan by any means necessary. So without further ado…
Annihilus was born of the spores spread across barren planets by a race known as the Tyannans. Specifically, he grew from a spore released on the planet Arthros, after a Tyannan ship crash landed there. As Annihilus grew, he achieved a high level of intelligence due to a genetic mutation.
Upon discovering the wreckage of the Tyannan ship that crash landed on Arthros, he used the remnant technology to become even more powerful. Fearing only death, Annihilus acquired the Cosmic Control Rod, which extended his life, and proceeded to defend the rod from any and all potential threats.
In one conflict, Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, sacrificed himself so that his teammates could exit the Negative Zone where Annihilus resided, so that Annihilus couldn’t follow them. However, once back on Earth, the rest of the team worked with Agatha Harkness and her magical abilities to rescue Reed Richards.
We’ve already seen that Agatha Harkness is going to be a prominent character in WandaVision, and we know that the Negative Zone is one of a few potential places that Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch will visit in the Multiverse.
Next on my list is Tyros (as well as Galactus), also known as Terrax the Tamer, and a rebellious herald of Galactus. I include Terrax on this list with the caveat that I see his introduction into the MCU only after Doctor Doom is established in the picture.
Terrax was a dictator and tyrant on his home planet, with a unique ability to manipulate stone. He used this power to animate stone sentries that patrolled his kingdom and aided in him maintaining control over the populace. It was this selfishness and lack of morality that drew Galactus’ attention. Galactus sought a herald that would have no moral objection to him consuming planets.
Terrax eventually rebels against Galactus, and goes to New York. Once there, he uses his powers to levitate the entire island of Manhattan and uses the millions trapped there as a bartering chip to get the Fantastic Four to kill Galactus. However, Galactus overpowered him and returned Manhattan to its rightful place, and then stripped Terrax of the power cosmic. In the resulting fight with the Fantastic Four, Terrax was thrown from the top of the World Trade Center. Somehow, he survived the fall and was secretly taken to a hospital to recover.
I see Terrax being the MCU’s top choice for a herald for Galactus since Fox had already tried and failed with the Silver Surfer. He has clear ties to the Fantastic Four, Galactus (obviously), Doctor Doom, the Avengers, and he’s got the cosmic background.
For the collectors:
Terrax – Fantastic Four #211 (1979)
Galactus – Fantastic Four #48 (1966)
Annihilus – Fantastic Four Annual #6 (1968)
Agatha Harkness – Fantastic Four #94 (1970)
So what do you think? Let me know in the comments!
