WandaVision!

It’s been a hot minute since my last post. I won’t bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that the holidays, work, family, and just general laziness happened. I’m back now, and intend to stay that way. So without further ado; I waited with bated breath for WandaVision to drop. The fourth episode dropped a few days ago, and along with it, I have several working theories on how things will play out.

WARNING: WandaVision SPOILERS for episodes 1 – 4 herein

Alright, so now we know who the beekeeper was before he popped out of that manhole. I initially thought that, with the SWORD logo on his back, that he might have been Swarm. He still might become Swarm, since we saw him change on the way into Westview. Only time will tell. Then the toy helicopter that Wanda found in the bush with the SWORD symbol on it, was in fact a SWORD drone. Several sources I’ve read have suggested that the random colorization throughout the first two episodes was Wanda’s subconscious trying to pull her back to reality.

The advertisement for the “Strucker” wrist watch had the Hydra logo on it, and the hour and minute hands were pointing to the 2 and 8 respectively (more on the significance of this in a moment). If you recall, Baron von Strucker is the Hydra scientist that used the Mind Stone in experiments that ultimately gave Wanda and Pietro their powers.

I initially did not notice this, but saw it pointed out on a comment thread; the advertisement for the Stark toaster (“Forget your past! This is your future!”) beeped just like the bomb did in Wanda’s flashback in Age of Ultron, when she recalls the Stark Industries bomb that she and Pietro “waited two days for it to kill them.” Again, an instance of Wanda’s subconscious projecting itself in this false reality.

There are several scenes where the house number, 2800, is very prominently and clearly visible. This, along with the watch hands being at 2 and 8, seem to be a nod towards Earth-2800 particularly, and the multiverse generally. (More about Earth-2800 in my next post!)

My next point centers around the end of the first episode, when Wanda and Vision see the bee keeper come out of the manhole. She says “No”, the scene rewinds, and they take a different course of actions. In addition to this, there’s a scene at the end of episode three where Vision suggests that something might be wrong. The ‘scene’ glitches, and restarts just before Vision said that something was wrong, but this time he says something completely different. I’d also like to point out that during the several scenes, Vision uses super speed. He’s not demonstrated this ability prior to WandaVision.

I think the “No” scene, Vision’s glitch, and Vision’s super speed all suggest that the reality of Westview has been created, and is being controlled, by Wanda. I think this is primarily because she’s unable to cope with the loss of Vision from Infinity War. However, I think she’s being encouraged to stay there for some reason. Agnes’ jokes about how her “husband looks better in the dark” and all the other jokes, could be an allusion to the fact that her husband is Mephisto. I also think that Agnes is Agatha Harkness. Additionally, in the comics, Speed and Wiccan’s souls were both born from part of Mephisto’s soul, and he technically owned their souls for a period of time. I think when SWORD finally gets through to Wanda, and her Westview reality starts to crumble, she’s going to make some kind of deal to keep Speed and Wiccan, and I think that’s how Mephisto will come into the fold.

My only unanswered question is; Who is Dotty? There seems to be some nuanced children references when it comes to her. Anges suggests she’s “the key to everything in town” right before the ladies in town meet “for the children.” Agnes brings up the art of seduction several times in the first two episodes. This would lend credence to the Mephisto theory, because in the comics, he wanted children via Wanda. However, Dotty’s comment “I don’t believe you” when Wanda says she doesn’t mean anyone harm is something I still can’t place. This is what makes me think that Dotty *isn’t* Agatha Harkness.

All of this brings me to my next, possibly far fetched, theory: So far in the MCU, all of our heroes have been created (Captain America, Captain Marvel, Hulk, Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, Wanda, Pietro) or rely heavily on tech or advanced fighting skills (Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, Ant-Man, Black Panther). The only outliers there are Thor (a god) and Dr. Strange (human, master of mystic arts). Since Speed and Wiccan were born of an enhanced individual, and therefore were not “created”, I posit that this makes them the MCU’s first mutants.

So what do you think? Leave a comment below and let me know if you think I’m off the mark, or if you have any other theories. Because I know I definitely haven’t caught all of the easter eggs!
