The Catch Up: Agatha All Along

I binged this nine-episode series in two days. It’s an excellent MCU installment, but it does require a little bit of background knowledge about the characters and the setting. However, you should be able to get by just watching WandaVision.

I loved “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” song, the cabin trial being a callback to “Cabin in the Woods”, and all the little nods to Billy being the one in control of The Road the whole time.

  • The trials didn’t appear until Agatha mentioned them in front of Billy
  • When Billy says he doesn’t know how he found his way to William Kaplan’s body, Agatha says “You never do.”
  • When the other witches ask Agatha how many witches completed The Road the last time, and she casually holds us two fingers. I originally thought she meant her and Rio, but after the episode detailing the history of Nicholas Sparks, we know the two people were her and Nicky, when they made up the song.
  • The reveal at the end of the show, detailing the origins of The Road, and how it was just a catchy means for Agatha to goad other witches into attacking her. This cements the fact that Billy created The Road in a panic trying to escape the Salem Seven.

Rio aka Death

Actress Aubrey Plaza portrays Rio / Death in Agatha All Along (2024)

I called Rio being Death the second she crawled out of Sharon’s grave. One thing I wish the show would have elaborated on, though, was Agatha’s implied past relationship with Rio. I wasn’t sure what exactly to make of that, unless it was a nod to Rio loving her for all the people she killed.

Also, Rio’s comment about Billy disrupting the “sacred balance” caught me off guard. Because Thanos was all about said balance, and in the comics, Thanos murders half the universe to basically simp for Death. I wonder if we’ll see a version of Thanos from the multiverse where this is the case in Doomsday.

Actress Sasheer Zamata portrays Jennifer Kale in Agatha All Along (2024)

Jennifer Kale the Potions Witch

Jennifer Kale was introduced in the comics in Adventures Into Fear #11. Therein, Jennifer is a child and steals a magical tome from her grandfather, expecting to learn some incantations and play with magic. However, she accidentally summons a Demon-Lord named Thog.

Luckily for Jennifer, Man-Thing is nearby and helps her defeat Thog. This cements a special bond between Jennifer and Man-Thing. And seeing as she’s the only witch to survive Agatha All Along (besides Billy, of course), I’ll be surprised if we do not see her in some future installment of the MCU.

Midnight Sons:

If the MCU is going the Hell route, which I’ve touched on in Sinister Signals, it would be reasonable to suggest a future lineup of either the Legion of Monsters or the Midnight Sons. My money is on Midnight Sons, because Morbius is a big part of the Legion of Monsters, and I seriously doubt that Kevin Feige wants to employ the likes of Jared Leto.

  • Agatha Harkness – Deceased as of the culmination of Agatha All Along, but it’s not impossible to think that she’ll find a way back to the mortal realm.
  • Blade – Marvel has been working on this one for literal years.
  • Clea – Debuted at the end of Multiverse of Madness.
  • Doctor Strange – No description needed.
  • Elsa Bloodstone – Introduced in “Werewolf by Night”.
  • Johnny Blaze – Ghost Rider. Nic Cage?
  • Danny Ketch – Ghost Rider. Ryan Gosling?
  • Jennifer Kale – Friend to Man-Thing, and cousin to both Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch.
  • Magik – Introduced in the New Mutants movie, but she could be instrumental in starting the demonic invasion of New York in the beginning stages of Inferno. (See Sinister Signals post).
  • Man-Thing – Friend to Jennifer Kale, introduced in “Werewolf by Night”.
  • Moon Knight – No description needed.
  • The Hood – Introduced in Ironheart.
  • Werewolf by Night – Obviously introduced in “Werewolf by Night”.
  • Wong – He gathers the Midnight Sons to fight Mephisto.

There are other members of the Midnight Sons. However, I think the folks listed above are the most likely candidates to grace the roster.
